Mina's Engineering Profile
Egg Challenge 4:
Ultimate Egg Drop
Purpose and Directions
Purpose: Construct a vehicle that will land in a designated landing zone while protecting a raw egg from a fall.
Direction: Create a paper structure that is tested to adequately protect an egg from breaking. The structure shall be tested for both lateral and vertical protection.
Evaluation
1) Describe the engineering aspects of your original design.
-
Our original design was a plane. It was built with two triangular shaped wings, two cylinders on each wing to support the strucutre and a cone attached to cylinder at bottom located at the center of the wings.
2) Describe the reasoning behind your requested design exemption? (Why did you change your original design?)
-
The practice trial did not worked out well, so we decided to change the design.
3) Explain how your test egg did/or did not survive?
-
Surpisely, our test egg did survive. Our egg was protected by ripped paper.
4)What design changes would make for your vehicle to perform better next time?
-
For the future trial, we will make structure more accurately, and more heavier.
5) Name three engineering design components that you have learned from this class and applied to your egg drop project.
-
The three things that I learned was that cushioning, accuracy, and structure's stability was the most important things throughout building process.
