Trebuchet
Purpose and Directions
Purpose: Propel an object at targets that are different distances away.
Direction: Build a model and conduct several tests to be able to control and adjust the accuracy of your machine.
Project Requirement
-
Build a trebuchet designed to hit targets at different ranges (distances)
-
Adjustable features to be able to hit multiple targets.
Design Challenges
-
1)Distance: 1m,2m, 3m
-
2)Target Size: Small, Medium, Large

Design
1) What was the most challenging part about building this project?-
The most challenging part about building this project was making sure that structure didn't twist and making sure that the ratio were correct. Also making the object fly was the most difficult one that our teamates struggled.
-
- 2)What did you do to overcome the challenge to create a successful project?
-
We kept on revising the structure and do the trial. We did this process until it got perfect. I think doing the revising was really important because from that we noticed our problem. For example the things that we noticed that wasn't really good, we never did the same thing to make a same mistake. Also for the good thing that we did, we added on to that and improved and thought about how to make it even more perfect.
-
- 3)What is the most difficult aspect to control when launching an object? (Ex. Loading the object, the distance, the trajectory…)
-
The most difficult aspect to control when launching an object was making sure that the ball was launched in the target area. We either sucessed at launching the ball inside the target area but it bounced and got in or it flew but didn't got into the target area. Also, it didn't flew directly or didn't work as we wanted to or it didn't went in because of few distanes difference. From that, we once again learned how important doing the trial was.

Final Testing
-
4)How did your trebuchet perform? (results)
-
The ball didn't went in the target area except once, but it bounced and went in. (Which mean it wasn't sucessful). As I said before, there were a lot of times that we missed because of few distances difference. We almost got it in.
-
-
5)Name at least 2 ways to improve your results
-
1. Making sure that the trebuchet is strong (not twisting and stay stablized) and making sure that sling is perfect because our sling wasn't perfect so it end it up failing the trial. The reason that I think these two things are important is because that if trebuchet move during our trials or test, the whole thing will be messed up like we would need to make sure it stay still for every time we lauch it. Also the distance of the ball depends a lot by the sling. For example, whenever we got a problem of ball not going far enough, we had to fix the length of the sling and finally it worked.
-
2. Do a lot of trials and revising. As I said before, the result of test depends a lot by how much trials we did. As we do more trials, the good result we get for test.
-
-
6) What design changes can be done to improve future performances?
-
As I said before making sure that structure is not twisting and stabelized especialy concentrate on sling part and also do a lot of revising and trials because we can figure out what's the weakest part of our structure and concentrate on making it perfect.

Reflection

7)Which project from this past year do you feel you learned the most from?
-
I learned a lot of things in revere egg drop.
-
-
8)What did you learn from that project?
-
Because I learned a lot of ways to how to protect our structure and make it even more stronger. I learned that the cylinders were best on making structrue strong and keep it safe. I also learned that despite what material we use, it doesn't matter. If the material is really weak, we could make it really strong. It really depends on how you make the structure and how it is built.

-
9)How might you use the information you learned from this class in a future situation?
-
Maybe when I take another engineering class I can brought up memory or look at the class website and use it. It would be useful to my future class. Also, maybe if I really get interest in being the engineerer, I could use the skills that we learned this year such as how to make structure strong and protect it well and also it could be usefull for my future university application. I could show them my website and be proud of it.
-
-
10) What do you feel are the main two skills that you learned from this class?
-
1. Failing is not the end of the world. It's the good thing to fail. There's an other way to fill it. You could learn from failing it.
-
2. Do not try to think inside the box. Think freely. Do not make it hard and difficult to think.
