Final Toothpick Bridge Challenge

Purpose and Directions

The purpose of this project was to create the strongest toothpick bridge that can span 25cm. The direction was to work in a group to design and build a toothpick bridge to meet the provided design requirements. Also, we had to weigh the bridge prior to final design test.

Bridge design

Our group looked through some of the toothpick bridge designs that someone had made before and decided that this design was the best choice to choose.

(This was the site that we looked through.

Construction Process

Compare to my previous toothpick bridge designs, our group make sure that we included the toothpicks (marked red) on each parallel side of the top part of our structure. Also, we included the cross parts (marked green) inside of each square part of the structure.

My role in the project was to measure each toothpicks and cut it. Also if there were any parts that looked weak, Sunny and I repaired those parts.

Testing the Design

I think our bridge meet all the design criteria except for bridge performance because our group holded the least amount of weight by 3529.8g. Our bridge collapsed by end part twisting.

Evaluation

Adding toothpicks on each bottom, top parts and adding crosses were helpful. The weak point of our bridge that caused it to break our structure was that left side of the structure was weaker than the right side of the structure which mean it was unstable.

The most thing that I liked about this activity was we got to see how other groups built their strctures in their own ways.
