Mina's Engineering Profile
Propelled Vehicle
Purpose and Directions
Purpose: Construct a vehicle that will move forward on its own power.
Direction: Design a vehicle that will begin at rest, but, with a designed trigger, will move forward.
Project Requirement
-
Self-propelled vehicles must move 5 meters
-
Gravity vehicles must move 7 meters
-
All vehicles must start in the stop position
-
A trigger may be used to start the vehicle, but the trigger itself cannot push/force the vehicle forward.
-
The vehicle must not leave the ground.
-
Max. weight of all components 500gm.
-
Vehicle must achieve 2 additional design challenges.
Design Challenges
-
1)Distance: 10m
-
2)Reduce weight: Under 150gm
-
3)Speed: 1.7 m/s (5m in 3 seconds)
-
4)Strength: Pull or Carry HALF the vehicle’s own weight (50gm min.)
-
5)Double UP: (First test)

Design

1) Describe the engineering aspects of your original design. (How was it powered? Why did you pick your design?)
-
We had the same vehicle design as last time. But instead this time, we changed and concentrated alot on the ramp. Our vehicle gained the power from the ramp and I chose this design because it is easy to build and also it worked well.

-
2)How did your vehicle perform in the trials?
-
It didn't worked well until we had our 4th trials.
-
-
-
3) Describe how you changed your original design based on your trial results.
-
We didn't changed anything about the vehicle but the ramp. (Look at the picture below)
-
-
Final Testing
-
4)How did your vehicle perform in the Final?
-
It worked well. Our vehicle went over 10 meters and over 1.7m/s. Also, our vehicle didn't got stuck on the gap.
-
-
-
5)How did your vehicle perform when comparing the final and trial results?
-
Compared to the final and trial results, it worked best on our final trial. It went furthur than our other trials and also went faster than our other trials.
-
-
-
6) Was your vehicle able to achieve the two design challenges?
-
Yes.
